Weekend Fun in Oakville

January 29, 2015

Did you know Oakville is repeatedly cited as one of the best places to live in Canada? It’s no wonder, given our town’s beautiful lakefront, cultural scene and great homes. In such a livable town with so much to love, weekends are the perfect time to get out and enjoy your surroundings at some of our must-visit destinations.

Hit the Trails

Kick off your weekend by clearing your head – and getting some exercise. Oakville’s gorgeous 300-plus trails cover some 150 km and are ideal for running, hiking or walking the dog.

Go for the Green

With 200 parks around town, you’ll never lack green space to visit. In winter, take your skates or toboggan to Bronte Creek Provincial Park, and when the temperature rises head back with a picnic for a swim and some sunshine. Gairloch Gardens is another good choice, featuring an art gallery and public park off of Lake Ontario.

Become a Culture Vulture

If you’re craving some culture there’s no need to drive into Toronto – check out our local theatres, galleries and museums instead. Start with a visit to Oakville Museum to get acquainted with our heritage, and pay a visit to the Sovereign House to tour the nearly 200-year-old home.

Wine and Dine

Park, museum and boutique-hopping will leave you hungry, and thankfully, Oakville’s restaurants don’t disappoint. The kids will love long-time favourite English Bay Fish and Chips or the Southside Cottage Grill. For adult date night, indulge in the finer side of Oakville at restos such as Cucci or Paradiso Restaurant.
